Article summary

Within Natterbox devices must be created before they can be assigned to users. They can either be created explicitly within these pages, or provisioned by Natterbox Support in the back end and created via syncing to this page. The exception to this is that for every user that is created, a Webphone is automatically created and assigned to that user.

  • Creating a new Device 

  • From the Devices Home page, click the New Device button.

  • Enter the details of the device and click Save.

  • Location - normally the office location of the device. Keeping this field consistent with the other devices at this location can aid searching.

  • Description - a more detailed description of where the device is in the office or the role it plays.

  • Active checkbox - by default this is checked but can be unchecked. Checked signifies that the device is enabled, unchecked means it is suspended.

  • Model - this can be used to identify the model of phone that this device refers to if desired.

  • Type dropdown list - the possible options are Desk Phone and Soft Phone. Desk Phone is selected by default. Once the device has been created, this field can not be changed.

  • MAC - this field is not available to be completed. It is only populated for devices that have been synchronized after having been provisioned on the back end by support.

Technically, no details are necessary - the system will create a device and assign it an extension with nothing more than a Type (as a dropdown list, this is always populated) selected. However, it makes identification of a device easier if some details are included.

  • Click Save when finished.

  • Devices that have been provisioned on an organization's behalf by the Natterbox Support team in the back end do not need to be created manually. This predominantly comprises the Yealink desk phones that are available as part of the Natterbox service.

  • Click the Sync button to pull any provisioned devices into the list.


An Automatically Created Web Phone

Whenever a new user is created, whether it be from an existing Salesforce user or explicitly entered details, a new Device with a Type of Web Phone is created automatically and assigned to that user. As when creating or syncing devices, the fields are populated as follows:

Device Extension - assigned the next available Device Extension from the back end number pool.

Location - this is left blank. It can be completed manually if desired by editing the device.

Description - this comprises of the Name of the AVS user, followed by Web Phone. This makes it completely clear who it was created for.

The Active check box - checked.

Type - automatically set to Web Phone.
