Article summary

This article will explain how to disable the built-in microphone on laptop devices running on Windows 10.

Often times you can experience calls where you sound distant from the microphone or too much back ground noise is being captured on the call. This is known to happen in scenarios where your windows default audio settings are set to use the build in microphone.

To ensure that this does not take place, we would recommend to disable your build in microphone. To do so, you need to perform the below steps :

  1. Navigate to your sound settings icon, right click on it and select sounds.

  2. In the new window please navigate to the “Recording” tab

  3. Locate your build in microphone, click on it and then click on “Properties” :

  4. In the new menu please select disable for the device usage drop down and click apply:

With the above, you will ensure that your Webphone would always connect to the headset microphone as long as you’ve allowed the microphone on your browser level.

You can check these settings by following this guide.

On some occasions, background noise can be captured although the noice cancellation of the headset is working. In these scenarios we recommend that you reduce the gain on the microphone. To do so, you will have to follow the below steps:

  1. Navigate to your sound settings icon, right click on it and select sounds.

  2. In the new window please navigate to the “Recording” tab.

  3. Locate your headset microphone, click on it and then click on “Properties”
