Article summary

What is Private Routing?

Private Routing or also known as Number ownership is the ability to assign a digital address directly to a specific User so they act as the sole owner for all communication sent to that address. The type use cases for this type of communication is you have your own private number that your customers can contact you directly on emulating a mobile/cell phone for example.

This is currently only supported for the SMS channel type.

How does the routing work?

The way Private routing works is that it acts as an address has a strict owner and therefore any messages sent to that number are routed directly to that User. It does not use a routing policy for it’s routing and instead goes directly to that User either into the existing conversation or creates a new one if one does not exist.
